All ladies registered at Willenhall Oak medical Centre will be offered screening from July at City of Coventry Health Centre.

You will soon be receiving an appointment through the post; the appointment can be changed to be more convenient to you if required.
Any lady over 70 is entitled to breast screening and is able to make any appointment on the number below as long as it’s not been less than 3 years.
Please visit the website www.bscreen.org.uk/coventry or contact the team on 02476 96 7200 for any enquiries.
Accessible Information The Accessible Information Standard (AIS) is a new NHS England information standard which must be implemented by all organisations that provide NHS or adult social care.
The AIS aims to ensure that people who have a disability, impairment or sensor loss receive information that they can access and understand, for example in large print, braille, professional communication support if they need it such as British Sign Language interpreter.
We want to get better at communicating with our patients. We want to make sure you can read and understand the information we send you. If you find it hard to read our letters or if you need someone to support you at appointments, please let us know:
- If you need information in braille, large print or easy read.
- If you need a British Sign Language interpreter or advocate.
- If we can support you to lip read or use a communication tool.
Please tell the receptionist when you arrive for your next appointment, or call us on 02476 639909.
This information will be recorded on your medical record in a standardised way and highlighted to ensure we have information on your communication needs.
This information may be shared with other NHS and adult social care providers if required.
Missed Appointments
Missed appointments are a significant problem for the practice and the NHS.
An average of 128 patients per month are failing to turn up for appointments at the surgery.
In June 2016 166 patients failed to tell the practice that they could not get to the surgery or no longer wanted their appointment, wasting 30+ hours which could have been allocated to other patients.
We appreciate emergencies can occur which prevent people from attending but request that people let reception know as soon as possible if they are unable to attend their booked appointment, even if it is on the same day. Demands on the surgery are increasing and if we are aware you cannot keep your appointment, receptionists can offer the slot to someone else who urgently needs to see a doctor. Patients who are registered for online services can use the service to cancel appointments as well as booking appointments. The automated 24 hour telephone system can also be used to cancel appointments as well as book appointments, providing you have kept your contact telephone number up to date with us.
It is practice policy to follow up non attenders by telephone and letters will be sent out to patients who fail to attend three or more appointments, advising them that failing to turn up or to cancel further appointments will result in them being asked to register with another practice.

We still have a large number of incorrect telephone numbers on patient records. In order to provide efficient and effective services to our patients it is important we are able to contact you when required. Please ensure that if you move or change your telephone number you inform us.
In the event that we have to re-arrange your appointment we will try and contact you by telephone.
You will not be able to use our automated services if your telephone number is incorrect.
Prescription Ordering Direct (POD)
This is a realtively new and convenient way to order your repeat prescription.
Telephone 02476 246072 Monday to Friday between 09:30am and 3:30pm and speak to a trained health professional who will order your medication for you. You will be speaking to a dedicated person who will have time to answer any repeat prescription queries and will be able to alert you if a medication review is due.
The aim of this service is to ensure patients are receiving the correct quantity of medication that they need in a timely manner to reduce the amount of prescription waste in our area. Unsused prescription medicines cost the NHS over £ 6 million every year in Coventry and Rugby alone.
Once you have made the telephone call your prescription will be authorised by your usual GP and will then be available at your nominated pharmacy 48 hours later.
Travel Health
Start preparing for your trip well in advance before you go. Read the latest health and safety advice for the country you're travelling using:
Find out if you need travel vaccines and make sure your vaccinations are up-to-date.
If you're planning to travel outside the UK, you may need to be vaccinated against some of the serious diseases found in other parts of the world. Vaccinations are available at the surgery to protect you against infections such as typhoid and hepatitis A. You can find out which vaccinations are necessary or recommended for the areas you'll be visiting on these two websites: NHS fitfortravel National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC)
Or alternatively by booking an appointment with the practice nurse. You should get advice at least eight weeks before you're due to travel, as some jabs need to be given well in advance.
Patient Survey
We recently asked patients attending surgery between 27th June 2016 and 8th July 2016 to complete a questionnaire to assess your views on the standard of services we offer.
